Earth Mama’s Calming Lavender Shampoo & Body Wash {Review and Giveaway}

Earth Mama Angel Baby Calming Lavender Shampoo and Body Wash: Review and Giveaway

As you may know, I have 4 boys.  And if you don’t have any boys, let me tell you that boys tend to get very dirty! Because of this, I am always on the lookout for natural soaps and shampoos to clean my dirty boys.

Another reason that I like to buy natural soap products is because a couple of my kiddos (as well as myself) have sensitive skin. It’s always a delicate balance between keeping our family clean without having our skin dry out or break out.

Imagine my delight when Earth Mama Angel Baby agreed to send me a bundle of Calming Lavender Shampoo and Body Wash to review. But not only did they send me a bundle, but I also asked for a bundle to give away to my lovely readers (that’s you) and they said yes!

So, keep reading to get my thoughts and opinion on this natural soap brand and don’t forget to enter to win some for yourself.

You can read the review I did of Earth Mama’s Third Trimester Tea in July of 2012 here.

My Experience With Earth Mama’s Calming Lavender Shampoo & Body Wash

The first thing I did when I got my bundle of suds was read the label. I wanted to know exactly what was in this shampoo and body wash. I know from experience that Earth Mama’s products are all natural, but I had to double check.

Earth Mama’s Calming Lavender Shampoo and Body Wash contains none of the nasty chemicals that consumers are used to seeing in their bath and body products.

Here’s the ingredient list:

Contains Organic Potassium cocoate, contains Organic Potassium olivate, Aloe barbadensis (organic aloe) leaf juice, Kosher Vegetable glycerin (palm sourced), Butyrospermun parkii (organic shea) butter, Vanilla planifolia (organic vanilla) fruit extract, Lavandula angustifolia (organic lavender) flower oil, Calendula officinalis (organic calendula) flower extract

Not only are all of the ingredients natural, but they are all organic.

One concern of mine was that it contains castile soap. Plain castile soap tends to be so good at cleaning that it dries out the skin. Not only was I pleasantly surprised that this soap did not dry out our skin, but I found that it even added some moisture and shine.

Normally when I use soap I have to immediately follow up with some type of moisturizer. Not so with this soap. The shea, aloe, and calendula leave your skin feeling soft and smooth, not dried out.

I love soaps and shampoos that have a nice scent. However, I have had many products (even natural ones) that have an overpowering or not-so-natural scent to them. Not so with this Calming Lavender. Not only does it have a pleasant lavender scent, but there is a vanilla scent to it as well, neither of which are overpowering.

If you are looking for something non-scented, Earth Mama also sells a Natural No-Scents Bundle that is perfect for really young babies and those sensitive to scents and smells.

Household Use

Not only can this soap be used on your body, but it also makes a good all-purpose cleaner for the whole house. A recipe for household cleaner is included on the bottle, or you can get the recipe here. This soap can also be used to make homemade baby wipes.

Here are some ideas for use:

  • All-purpose soft scrub cleanser
  • Make your own diaper wipe solution (instructions here)
  • Antibacterial soap
  • Make homemade laundry detergent
  • Kill ants!

The Verdict

Simply put, my family loves this shampoo and body wash. We’ve used it for a couple of weeks consistently at the boys’ bath time.

I decided to try this wash for myself on my hair and my skin. I now rotate this soap into my hair care routine every couple of days because this Calming Lavender Shampoo and Body Wash keeps my scalp from drying out.

I also now use this soap as my main body wash and use it to wash my face in the morning and at night as part of my regular skin care routine.

Like I said, we love this stuff!

  1. To be honest, I love Earth Mama Angel Baby. I found it almost seven years ago. But I haven’t been able to afford it recently. My boys have been reduced to using my husbands SLS-laden stuff because it is what we had. And me? Well I have been trying to squeak by on one bar of lovely frankincense and myrrh soap my oldest gave to me as a gift awhile ago. Not the greatest for hair, but since I only wash it once or twice a week, it works. I would love to win this pack so the three of us who have sensitive skin can heal over the summer and avoid the rashes that come with using commercial soaps.

  2. I would love to bathe my daughter in something safe for her body and I’m also interested in using it as an all purpose cleaner too.

  3. My daughter has sensitive skin and a hard time unwinding at night, I think this would really be perfect for her

  4. Our fourth child, and third boy, is due in a month… So we could use a little “calming” around here! =)

  5. I would love to win because I have previously tried one of Earth Mama Angel Baby’s products and I loved it! Can’t wait to try more!

  6. I’d love to win this! I love Earth Mama Angel Baby and use lavender oil a lot with my kids, this is the perfect combo!

  7. I love that this is natural, and contains lavender essential oil to help calm my two-year old before bed. It takes forever for her to fail asleep each night, and once she does she wakes up many times. Perhaps this will help her get a full night of sleep (and by default maybe my husband and I can sleep for more than a couple hours at a time!) I also love products that can be used in other ways, so the fact that this baby wash can be used as a natural cleaner and for baby wipes is a huge plus!

  8. I love Lavender anything. I’m trying my hand at growing some for the first time and so far I haven’t killed it.

  9. We try to be economical but still go through lots of soap. I LOVE EMAB and we could really use some safe lovelo soap. I use it on the babies and myself.

  10. I would love to win soap from this company! I did a post on my website sharing how I love and recommend their product, but as a SAHM its tough to find room in the budget for things like this. This would be a dream come true with worry-free baths for a few months. 🙂 Thank you for the give away!

  11. I love Lavendar personal-care products, but I’d probably gift them to a young couple that recently became first-time parents.

  12. I’m learning all about how wonderful and calming lavender is for my son – what better time to use it than right before bed. 🙂 And I love, love, love how natural this is – something I am always searching for!

  13. I would love to win for quite a few reasons: I love the smell of lavender, the products are natural and organic, and I need to find something that won’t irritate my sons sensitive skin.

  14. I am always looking for good products for my family. This one sounds really good, based on your review, and I would love to try out.

  15. Like my brother, my niece has very sensitive skin. I am always on the look out for products that would make their lives easier in the skin department. I would love a chance to share this product with them.

  16. This brand has wonderful ingredients.Unlike the garbage at the grocery store.I would love this for my grandkids

  17. One of my dearest friends is having a baby very soon, this would be a perfect gift for her!

    Thanks for hosting!

  18. I’ve tried other products from them and loved them, such as the bottom butter, the stretch oil and the belly butter. Now that my baby is here (just born), I would love to win this set!

  19. I would like to win this for my 18 year old cousin, who is expecting her first baby in a couple months. She has really stepped up to the plate throughout this whole situation and is growing into a responsible young wan. We are all so proud of her. I want to give her the best products to use for her new baby, and this is the type of thing she couldn’t afford on her own.
I was looking into these products yesterday and wanted to buy everything!

  20. I want my kids to use natural products! I loved the Earth Mama Angel Baby products when I was pregnant also.

  21. Lavender is my favorite scent! and it’s nice to have safe (no xenohormones or other harmful ingredients) family care products to use. What fun!

  22. I love that Earth Mamas uses natural ingredients and I am always on the look out for new green products for my family.

  23. I would like to win this because I am passionate about keeping dangerous chemicals out of my life and my kids lives. I also have a 4 month old baby who I’d love to use this with! Thanks for the giveaway!

  24. I have 3 boys who also tend to get quite dirty 🙂
Being one who always looks for natural, it would be a great gift to our family!

  25. I can’t stand the likes of Johnson’s baby wash that have a ton of toxic ingredients and claim to be good for your kid

  26. I am not found of lavender at all but we use it in my daughter’s room because it tends to sooth her aggressive tendencies when she starts acting like a brat in the evening. She has brain damage and has been diagnosed with sun-downers syndrome so when the sun goes to bed she starts acting like a wild child until we can get the meds to kick in.

I can’t say that lavender has been a miracle for her or her behavior, but it does seem to keep her calm and actually melds with her body scent unlike it does with mine. Me and lavender do not mix at all. It stinks on me within a hour if I wash with it.
