Quantcast

I have two breastfed boys, and both of them like to bite.  My toddler especially hurts because he has a mouthful of teeth, and he’s purposefully doing it so he locks his jaws.  Although blood has not been drawn, my poor nipples look beat up with all those teeth marks.  I was thrilled, then, when Motherlove agreed to send me their nipple cream to review.Motherlove nipple cream review 2

Motherlove makes a line of products for pregnancy, post-partum care, and breastfeeding care.  I had first heard about the company because they make a line called More Milk (and More Milk Plus).  The people who mentioned it raved about how great it works to boost milk supply.  Naturally, I was eager to give the nipple cream a try.

The cream comes in a 1 oz glass jar with a plastic top.  The ingredients, which are certified USDA organic, are extra virgin olive oil, beeswax, shea butter, marshmallow root,  and calendula flower.  The cream is completely edible.

Easy to Use

The texture reminds me of lip balm.  Unlike lanolin creams, you do not need to roll it between your fingers before application.  You simple unscrew the top, dip a finger or cotton swab in, and spread it on.

The cream doesn’t have any smell that I noticed and tastes like a bland olive oil.  Neither one of my children objected to the taste.  It’s not bad, but I’m not tempted to try and eat it.

The product is also cruelty free.

How did it help?  Just like lip balm, I felt like the product moisturized my nipples.  I think it would be great for chapped nipples especially for those moms who haven’t breastfed or haven’t breastfed in a long time.  I’m not sure that there’s anything external other than ice to help with pain from biting, but the cream helped the teeth marks disappear.

Criticisms

My nitpicking goes to packaging.  Because I live in an area with triple digit temperatures, my experience may be a fluke.  When the UPS man arrived, the box was completely hot.  I think he had it on the truck most of the day.  When I opened the jar, the seal had come undone.  I’m guessing that the epoxy melted.  Later, when I let the jar cool off, the seal resealed itself.

The other nitpicking thing is that the label doesn’t include a place of manufacture.  I like to know where things that go in or on my body are made.  Motherlove products are made in the United States.  I’m not sure why they don’t make that known.  It’s also not included on their website.  I had to do some digging to find that out.

I admit I’m a hard one to please.  This product is, despite my two criticisms, awesome.  You can also win yourself a jar.  Just fill out the Rafflecopter form below.

These opinions are my own.  Motherlove did not pay me for them.  I was only supplied a jar of the cream for review.
