Quantcast

Peanut Butter Banana SmoothieThis recipe comes from a friend of mine. He recently had surgery and is on a very restricted diet. He made up this smoothie of things he could eat and it turned out amazing. It’s got all kinds of goodies including fruits, veggies, yogurt, and natural sweeteners.

Do you think this would taste good without the maple syrup?
I just can’t justify giving the kids that much sugar.

Rae you could certainly give it a try without the maple syrup. However, maple syrup is a natural sweetener containing antioxidants and minerals including Zinc and Manganese. According to a recent University of Rhode Island research team, maple syrup contains a cocktail of polyphenol compounds, several with antioxidant properties and many with well-documented health benefits.

So, when it comes to sweeteners, they are not all created equal. This is a very healthy drink with many vitamins and minerals, but I can certainly understand your concern with sugar. Especially considering a can of soda is the equivalent of pouring your child a glass of water with about 15TBS of sugar.
