This brownie recipe has been adapted to suit a more whole foods diet. It uses all whole wheat flour and you have the option of replacing all of the white sugar with natural sugars.

Just in case you were wondering, I’ve added more milk to the recipe, so the whole wheat flour doesn’t make them “dry”.

Healthy Whole Wheat Brownies

Ingredients

1 cup butter

1 cup honey

1 cup sugar (or another 3/4 cup honey or other sweetener)

2 teaspoons vanilla

4 eggs

1/4 cup milk

3/4 cup cocoa

1 cup whole wheat flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon sea salt

1 cup chopped nuts or sunflower kernels (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Meanwhile, grease a 13×9×2 inch baking pan and melt the butter.
  2. Stir together butter, honey, sugar, vanilla, milk, & cocoa. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Add flour, baking powder and salt; beat until well blended. Stir in nuts, if desired.
  3. Pour batter into pan and bake for 30-35 minutes.
